Dr Kanishka Rangamuwa is a Respiratory and Sleep Physician and Interventional Pulmonologist.

Dr Rangamuwa graduated from the University of Otago in New Zealand and completed his specialist training in respiratory and sleep medicine in Melbourne, attaining his fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) through Eastern Health and The Alfred Hospital.

Dr Rangamuwa has established the interventional pulmonology service at Northern Health and is the director of interventional pulmonology at The Northern Hospital.

Dr Rangamuwa is also an interventional pulmonologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Dr Rangamuwa is highly specialised in minimally invasive pulmonary interventional procedures such as endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) and cryobiopsy and minimally invasive lung volume reduction procedures. These interventions are critical in the diagnosis and management of lung cancers amongst other pulmonary diseases including interstitial lung disease and COPD.

Dr Rangamuwa currently offers his services through his public clinics at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Northern Hospital. He will also be offering these services at Northern Private hospital.

In addition to the above, Dr Rangamuwa has extensive experience in managing a broad range of respiratory and sleep conditions, including severe asthma, COPD, lung masses/nodules, suspected lung cancer and interstitial lung disease (ILD), as well as complex respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders. He has a special interest in the diagnosis, staging and treatment of lung cancer. His PhD through the University of Melbourne is investigating bronchoscopic treatment modalities for lung cancer.

Dr Rangamuwa takes a patient-centred approach to all his patients. In addition to English, he is also able to converse fluently in Sinhalese.

Dr Rangamuwa is a member of Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ), European Respiratory Society (ERS), World Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (WABIP), International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and Thoracic Oncology Group Australasia (TOGA).

Kanishka loves spending time outdoors with his young family, he also enjoys playing and watching both cricket and soccer.
